Esta notícia diz que, dos 10 milhões de empregos prometidos, 8 milhões serão criados através da redução da jornada de trabalho. O governo fala em reduzir a jornada sem reduzir os salários. Parece ótimo, tirando o detalhe da inviabilidade. Mais um anúncio populista?

Dream Theater Songwriting Contest

Que tal tentar escrever uma música do Dream Theater? A banda propôs este desafio no site. Eles forneceram imagens de um quadro que eles usam para listar todas as partes da música (com informações do tipo: tempo, tom ou banda que o som lembra) e imagens de um programa que o Jordan utiliza para editar o midi. A música é instrumental. Tudo que tem que ser feito é tentar adivinhar como vai ser a música e compor algo de acordo com as informações dadas. O vencedor ganha várias coisas, incluindo 4 passagens para algum dos shows da turnê e a chance de tocar a música antes do show deles.
Moleza, os caras nem tocam nada...

Lembrei disto hoje e fiquei fuçando nos meus arquivos para encontrar. É o texto de um trailer do Episódio I, sobre o Qui-Gon Jinn (aquele que treinou o Obi-Wan).

Purpose is not what drives us

Os flash mobs são um reflexo da falta de propósito na sociedade pós-moderna. O apelo do sem-razão se dá por uma questão de identificação pessoal, consciente ou não. Em certos casos, o problema é ainda mais grave: as pessoas vêem mais propósito em atitudes sem sentido do que em suas vidas cotidianas.

Muito bom! Não bastasse ser o software mais útil e bem construído que já vi, ele tem "features" adicionais extremamente divertidas! O Google faz as vezes de calculadora. E trabalha com números complexos e números grandes! E calcula as unidades, e sabe todas as constantes! Basta digitar uma expressão lá e ele avalia. Exemplos:

• Números complexos: exp(pi * i) = -1

O fim das estrelas

Bastante lírico para um cientista. Quem disse a frase acima foi o professor Alan Heavens, líder de um grupo de cientistas que analisou o espectro de 40 mil galáxias e constatou o decrescimento da população das estrelas no universo. Li no Terra.

Mais do Gaiman, mais dos sete perpétuos

Boas novas: em setembro será lançada nos EUA uma nova HQ do Gaiman com os sete perpétuos: Endless Nights, ainda sem previsão para lançamento no Brasil.

Ele também vai participar de uma minissérie da Marvel chamada 1602, que retrata um universo alternativo onde os clássicos personagens da Marvel vivem na Europa do século XVII. O lançamento nos EUA será dia 13 de agosto. Com a habilidade do Gaiman para esse tipo de roteiro, a minissérie realmente promete.

Terminator 3: Rise of the machines

Um dos melhores filmes de ação que assisti nos últimos tempos. Não há muito o que comentar sobre o roteiro sem spoilers, então comento o resto. O forte do filme são os efeitos especiais e as cenas de ação. Aparentemente gastaram muito dinheiro na produção (destruir aquele tanto de carros deve sair caro), mas valeu a pena. Diversão o tempo inteiro. Esse é realmente o melhor papel que se pode dar ao Schwarzenegger. O ator não tem muita expressão, então o personagem fica perfeito. O cara todo sério lá, dizendo "talk to the hand". E o final tambem é legal.

A faixa que dá título ao novo single do Iron, Wildest Dreams, está disponível para download no site deles.

Não gostei muito. Este single teoricamente é uma prévia do próximo álbum, Dance of Death, a ser lançado dia 08 de Setembro. Será que decepcionará?

Sarcasmo budista

Descobri recentemente que o Buddha era muito bom nisso. Praticamente um Tatsuya Ishida (Sinfest). O Tipitaka (coletânea de todos os discursos do Buddha) é cheio de trocadilhos linguísticos, alfinetadas nos "poderes" da Índia da época e coisas do gênero.

Mas o que eu achei o máximo foi a seguinte cena, 100% Sinfest. Não a cena em si, mas o personagem envolvido, o "Grande Brahma". No hinduísmo, o "Grande Brahma" é o criador do universo, governante do mundo, etc, etc, etc. No budismo, o "Grande Brahma" é um deva (habitante de um plano superior, sem nenhuma influência significativa no plano humano) com delírios de grandeza que acha que criou o universo e governa o mundo. Só falta o fantoche na mão.

Certa feita, um monge tinha uma dúvida metafísica, e foi passeando por todos os planos superiores em busca de sua resposta. Nas escrituras tem uma descrição extremamente repetitiva dele indo de um em um, fazendo a pergunta, e sendo encaminhado para outro, até que ele é finalmente encaminhado para o Grande Brahma. Segue o diálogo dele com o mesmo (retirado do Kevatta Sutta, em http://www.accesstoinsight.org)

E agora uma historinha curta:
